Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

Find your best deal:

  • Summer is high season in the Morehead City area. To get the best value, try shifting your family's Morehead City vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Morehead City vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your group qualifies for a discount.
  • Booking websites often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Often, management companies supply Morehead City area travel guides which include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Morehead City visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Begin by choosing potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Quaint ground floor guest house in historic Beaufort, NC. has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available online. If not, contact the property owner before you book your rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

Advice for a great stay:

  • Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To make sure no damages are linked to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. text the rental manager immediately to report any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a wonderful vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
