Our top Rental property booking tips:

Get the most from your rental budget:

  • To find the largest rental within budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities.
  • The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Look for your local Morehead City area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Planning, picking, and booking the rightrental:

  • First, have your group select date ranges and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Panoramic Ocean and Sound Views Fantasea Cottage on Emerald Isle has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is often accessible on booking pages. If not, call the property management company before you reserve the rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or costs might be applied to your contract.

Have a great stay:

  • Store the host's information in your smartphone.
  • To ensure that no damages are linked to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas during check in. text the rental manager immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of concerns.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a wonderful time? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
