Our top Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

Getting the most from your spending budget:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in the Morehead City area. To find the best value, shift your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Morehead City vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer rate reductions for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Often, management companies supply Morehead City area visitor guide magazines which will include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Morehead City area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Filter your rental search:

  • First and foremost, have your family agree to dates and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Coastal home near the ocean with covered porches & W\/D has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available online. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before you book your rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation.
  • Does your group require particular amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or charges applied to your agreement.

More tips for your stay:

  • Get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your . Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • To make sure damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas during arrival. Speak to the host right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many concerns.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible resource to find the best local attractions.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all of your things. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a wonderful time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
