Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation home experience:

When to book a Morehead City rental home & When to go:

  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are high season in the Morehead City area. Booking your Morehead City vacation rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Morehead City vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Some property managers offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Look for your local Morehead City visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain coupons for local accommodations and attractions.

Planning and choosing your Morehead City vacation home:

  • First, have your group decide on vacation dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration you need. Charming, warm & tranquil historic downtown New Bern home has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email the host before booking the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to find a property that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, hosts charge additional pet fees.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking

Considerations for your stay:

  • Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Upon arrival, record any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to inspire more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
