How to get the best Atlantic Beach vacation home experience:

Get the best value:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in the Morehead City area. Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring months is an excellent way to save on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Morehead City vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • The earlier your group can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites typically offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Morehead City visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Filter your search:

  • Start by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. A Cottage on the Canal- a charming house in Atlantic Beach has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available online. Otherwise, email the host before you reserve your home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you must book a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.

Additional considerations:

  • Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To make sure damages are not linked to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas upon your arrival. Get in touch with the host right away to document any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few problems.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a terrific vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
