Getting the best vacation property experience:

Getting the most from your rental budget:

  • Summer time is high season in the Morehead City area. To get the best value, try changing your family's Morehead City trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Morehead City vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your vacation property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Morehead City visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • First, have your family agree to the best dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration you need. Just a short walk to the beach! Private pool, elevator & more! has 5 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible online. Otherwise, email the property manager before you book the home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.

More tips for your visit:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
  • To make sure that no damages are linked to your visit, record any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the property manager immediately to document any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to compel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
