Our top Emerald Isle vacation rental home tips and tricks:

When to book & When to go:

  • The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked very early. Reserving your rental property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • To get the largest vacation home within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular Morehead City attractions and restaurants.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Booking websites usually offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Morehead City area visitors guides which include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Morehead City area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Selecting the perfect vacation home in Emerald Isle:

  • Start by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Just a Fluke - Ocean cottage 2nd row has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Morehead City vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before reserving your rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or charges applied to your contract.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental

Considerations for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of concerns.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Document any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to compel more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
