Strategies to get the best rental experience:

Sticking to your spending plan:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. To find the best rental home within your budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities.
  • The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies typically offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain discounts for nearby accommodations and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Select a group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Beach Walk 205: After Dune Delight has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before booking your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

Tips to have a fantastic stay:

  • Add the host's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • During check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a terrific vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
