Rental home tips and tricks:

Sticking to a rental budget:

  • Summertime is high season in the Morehead City area. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring is a great way to save on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies usually offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local Morehead City area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Narrow your Search:

  • First and foremost, have your group agree to the best dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Third-Floor, Direct Oceanfront Condo with Great View, WiFi & Shared Pools\/Tennis has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property management company before you book the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is best for your vacation.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or charges might be applied to your agreement.

Know before you go:

  • Add the host's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Make a record of any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few issues.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected everything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on great ratings to stimulate future bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
