Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect New Bern vacation property experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summertime is high season in New Bern. Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Morehead City visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides contain offers and deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Planning and choosing the perfectrental:

  • Start by selecting your a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. The Cozy Bear Bungalow has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often accessible on booking pages. If not, call the host before you reserve the property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what configuration is suitable for your trip.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or charges may be applied to your contract.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
  • Record any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if a dispute is filed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a fantastic stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
