Strategies to get the best Morehead City vacation home experience:

How to get the best value:

  • Summer months are high season in the Morehead City area. Booking your vacation rental in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Morehead City area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Choosing the best rental:

  • Select your vacation dates and max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. Spacious 1BR 1BA with Full Kitchen and Living Room - 3 min walk to the beach has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before booking your home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is optimal for your trip.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Request details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.

Have a great stay:

  • Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make sure damages are not attributed to your visit, make a record of any problem areas during arrival. Get in touch with the host immediately to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
  • When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a terrific vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
