Tips to get the very best vacation property experience:

How to get the best value:

  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are high season in the Morehead City area. Reserve your vacation home in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
  • Property managers often offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Look for your local Morehead City visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have discounts for nearby shops and restaurants.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Start by choosing the best vacation week and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Oceanfront high rise condo, centrally located in Emerald Isle has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. If you don't see them listed, email the host before reserving the property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, search for a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

Tips to have a fantastic stay:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of issues.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
  • To make sure that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon your arrival. Speak to the rental manager immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Just before checking out, take a walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
