Finding the best rental home experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Summer months are high season in the Morehead City area. Booking your Morehead City vacation home in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Booking websites often offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain discounts for nearby tours and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • First, have your family decide on date ranges and a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Ocean front Sands Villa, boat parking, indoor + outdoor pools has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Morehead City rentals search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking websites. If not, email or call the property owner before booking the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to find a property that allows animals. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Make a record of any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a wonderful time? Most rental managers make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
