Strategies for getting the best Emerald Isle rental home experience:

When to book a Morehead City rental home & When to go:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the Morehead City area. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Morehead City vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts offer rate reductions for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Booking websites usually offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Morehead City area travel guides which often include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Morehead City visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Filter your rental search:

  • Start by having your group agree to vacation dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Oceanfront Home in the Perfect Location on Emerald Isle-Dog Friendly has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before you book the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out what configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
  • Visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or applied to your contract.

During your stay:

  • We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To ensure that damages are not linked to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. Get in touch with the property manager immediately to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many problems.
  • Be respectful. Often, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a fantastic stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
