Founded in 1710, New Bern is the second oldest town in North Carolina and is filled with handsomely preserved homes, gardens, and landmarks that reflect its colonial and antebellum past.

Things to Do Around Town:
Exploring New Bern's Historic District is a must, where you can walk through streets lined with historic homes, visit the Tryon Palace, and discover the stories of the city's past. Tryon Palace, a reconstructed colonial governor's mansion, offers guided tours, interactive exhibits, and gorgeous gardens. Nearby, the North Carolina History Center provides a deeper look into the state's past through innovative exhibits and engaging programs.

New Bern is also a cultural hub, hosting various festivals and events throughout the year, including the fashionable MumFest in the fall. Whether you're interested in history, outdoor activities, or simply enjoying the striking ambiance of a coastal Carolina town, New Bern offers something for everybody.

New Bern vacation rental home tips:

Get the most from your rental home budget:

  • The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in New Bern. Reserve your rental in Fall or Spring months to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Morehead City vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property managers often offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Often, property management companies supply Morehead City area visitor guides which often include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Morehead City area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Finding the best rental in New Bern:

  • Choose your vacation week and max budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Neuse River Retreat has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property manager before reserving the rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation.
  • Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.
  • If there's a specific Morehead City attraction you love, look for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking

Tips for a wonderful stay:

  • Add the host's information to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of concerns.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • To make certain that damages are not linked to your stay, note any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the host immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a great stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
