Booking the best vacation rental experience:

Sticking to a spending plan:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. To get the best value, consider changing your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Morehead City vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines contain coupons for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • First and foremost, have your family decide on the best dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Neuse River Retreat has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available online. If not, email the property management company before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what is optimal for your trip.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or costs could be applied to your agreement.

Advice for your stay:

  • Add the host's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To ensure that no damages are linked to your stay, record any problem areas during arrival. message the host immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • At departure, take a walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a excellent vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
