Tips to get the perfect vacation property experience:

Getting the best rental home value:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Morehead City vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Often, property management companies supply Morehead City area visitor guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Morehead City area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Start by having your family commit to the best dates and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Spotless, comfortable and safe. Great location with excellent kitchen + backyard has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking pages. If not, reach out to the property owner before reserving the property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or may be applied to your agreement.
  • Does your family require specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Add the property manager's information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of problems.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Record any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to inspire future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your experience find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
