Tricks and tips to get the optimal Morehead City vacation property experience:

Find your perfect rental home:

  • Summer time is high season in the Morehead City area. To find the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Morehead City visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines have coupons for local accommodations and attractions.

How to pick the best vacation rental:

  • To start, have your family choose the best dates and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Spotless, comfortable and safe. Great location with excellent kitchen + backyard has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available online. Otherwise, contact the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
  • To make sure that no damages are linked to your stay, record any problem areas upon check in. Call the property manager immediately to report any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • On check-out day, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on great feedback to compel future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
