Our top Morehead City rental home booking tips and tricks:

How to get the best value:

  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To get the largest rental home for your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have offers and deals for nearby tours and attractions.

Narrow your Search:

  • Choose vacation week and spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Completely Renovated *Single* Beachfront Home Sleeps 10 has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available online. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before booking your home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

Have a wonderful stay:

  • Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of difficulties.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • During arrival, document any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Leave a review! Hosts rely on great feedback to compel future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
