Rental home tips and tricks:

How to get the best rental value:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in Emerald Isle. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties.
  • The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property management companies often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Morehead City visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides contain coupons for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Selecting and booking yourrental:

  • To start, have your family select date ranges and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Charming 5-bedroom oceanfront duplex with wonderful views has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Morehead City vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property manager before you book the home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Have a great stay:

  • Be sure you get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
  • Upon check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to propel more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
