Strategies to get the best vacation property experience:

When to go & When to reserve a rental home:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are high season in Atlantic Beach. To find the most suitable vacation home for your budget, we suggest booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Many rental management companies supply Morehead City area travel guides that include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Select a group lead, select your trip dates, and choose a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. “Castaways\" Atlantic Beach Family Fun Cottage has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Morehead City rentals search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is commonly available online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before booking the vacation home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish which bed configuration is optimal for your family.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Does your group require unique amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.

More considerations:

  • Add the property manager's contact info to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many problems.
  • Lock your rental while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Note any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all of your things. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to stimulate future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
