Strategies to get the best vacation home experience:

When to go & When to reserve a rental home:

  • The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Emerald Isle. To book the most suitable rental within your budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Morehead City restaurants and activities.
  • Some hosts offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Property managers typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Morehead City area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Selecting the best rental home:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Bill Fish, Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 10 bedrooms and 12 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible on booking websites. If not, contact the host before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .

More tips for your visit:

  • Be sure you get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many issues.
  • Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Record any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if there is a dispute.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a great vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
