Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect vacation property experience:

Finding the best value:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is the most expensive season in the Morehead City area. To find the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we suggest booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Morehead City vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Property managers often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides contain discounts for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Selecting the perfect vacation home in the Morehead City area:

  • To start, have your group commit to a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Beautiful Canal-Front Cottage with Deepwater Boat Slip, Waterfront Deck & W\/D has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually available online. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before you reserve the rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a particular Morehead City beach you crave, browse homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.

Tips to have a smooth stay:

  • Add the host's information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many concerns.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Upon check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a terrific stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
