Strategies for getting the best Morehead City vacation home experience:

Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked early. Booking your vacation home six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To get the best value, change your vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Morehead City vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Some property managers offer special rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group.
  • Booking websites typically offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Morehead City area visitor guides which include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning and choosing the perfectrental home:

  • Begin by choosing vacation dates and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Beautiful 2 bedroom condo in the resort community of Fairfield Harbour has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available online. Otherwise, contact the host before you book the property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you will need a pet-friendly rental. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.

Tips for a wonderful stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • During arrival, record any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a wonderful stay? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
