Tricks and tips to get the perfect rental experience:

When to visit & When to book:

  • Reserve your rental home in Fall or Spring months to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Morehead City vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
  • Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.

More tips for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Record any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to stimulate future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation rental. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
