Tips to get the very best vacation home experience:

Finding the best rental home value:

  • To get the largest rental home within budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular attractions.
  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some owners offer discounts for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have money saving offers on local tours, shops, and attractions.

Planning, picking, and booking the bestvacation home:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Ocean front 6BR with pool & hot tub has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before booking the property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish which bed configuration is best for your family.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Store the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make certain that damages are not linked to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the property manager right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of issues.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible resource to find the best local attractions.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a terrific vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
