Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect vacation property experience:

Sticking to your rental home budget:

  • The earlier your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Morehead City area. Book your rental home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Morehead City area travel guides which will include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Morehead City area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to select the best rental home in the Morehead City area:

  • Choose a group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Fantastic soundfront home with Inground Pool!! has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Morehead City vacation rental search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is often available online. If not, email or call the property owner before reserving the rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what is suitable for your vacation.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Request information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's an individual Morehead City destination you love, keep an eye out for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many problems.
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • To make sure damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas upon your arrival. Make contact with the host immediately to record any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a excellent vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
