Strategies to get the perfect vacation home experience:

When to book a Morehead City rental home & When to go:

  • The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • To get the best value, change your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warm weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Morehead City area travel guides which often include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Morehead City visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • To start, have your group choose trip dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Direct oceanfront\/ A Place at the Beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the host before you book the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what bed configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or could be applied to your contract.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.

Additional considerations:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect your property!
  • To make sure that damages are not attributed to your stay, record any problem areas when you arrive. Call the rental manager immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on great reviews to stimulate future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
